Requirements to renew your Iowa RE License
Each resident licensee should complete 36 hours of continuing education for license renewal.
A maximum of 24 hours may be completed by home study/distance learning. If the licensee has a medical disability approved by the Iowa Real Estate Commission, all 36 hours may be completed by home study/distance learning.
Depending on when your license was placed on inactive status you will probably need to complete a maximum 36 hours of continuing education. Another way to complete your continuing education or bring your license active is to successfully pass the real estate licensing examination (salespersons must pass the salesperson exam; brokers the broker exam).
Yes and No. A licensee may apply a maximum of 18 hours from the previous renewal period. Licensees cannot carry over any hours toward the mandatory eight hour law update course or the four-hour ethics course. See Iowa Rules and Reg's 193E--4.4(543B)
November 15 of the year your license expires.
NO ! DON'T DO THAT!!! The Commission has levied fines of $500 against licensees who have falsified information to the Iowa Real Estate Commission!

Except for updates, the courses are the same. Instead of sending you the printed form of the course, the course is now available by clicking the button associated with the course.
Yes but only a few pages. You can print off the entire course is you'd like but that won't be necessary. THE ONLY PART OF THE COURSE THAT YOU MUST PRINT IS THE SUPPLEMENT and Final Exam Answer Grid totalling about 8-12 pages. The Supplement requires you to answer 6 or 8 questions about each chapter in the Study Manual ; the Final Exam is open book and has 10 multiple choice questions for each chapter of the Study Manual.
When you finish the course, send the Supplement with the Final Exam Answer Grid by US Mail to us for grading. You will be required to pay the course fee at this time. If you do not obtain the required 80% correct on the final exam, Brad will call you and review important course information to help any course deficiencies.
Please try to complete your courses within 6 months of starting each course.
Certificates will be signed and sent to you through First Class USPS mail
Your public library should allow you to use their computer and printer.
